Metropol Experience

Metropol was born as a typeface designed for traditional printing in 1967: it is a font made in lead by the Nebiolo Foundry in Turin, designed within its Artistic studio by Aldo Novarese, the Italian designer who has become over time the best known and most appreciated in the world.
 
In the late 1960s, with the partnership between us Reber R41 and the Nebiolo Foundry in Turin, many of the most iconic characters of this splendid and long-lived company were introduced into our catalog and also produced in transferable: Metropol is one of them.
 
Since then Metropol has never ceased to be used, surviving the closure of Fonderia Nebiolo's typeface production department in the mid-1970s and becoming, along with many others, part of our exclusive collection of original typefaces now finally digitized on the basis of their original design provided by Fonderia Nebiolo of Turin.
 
The Metropol typographic poster, composed and printed entirely by hand with typographic pulls by Martina Vincenti, La Tipografa Toscana has the task of taking you back to that 1967 and to let you touch the result of printing with traditional typefaces: the format is 35 x 50 cm was printed on Fedrigoni Arena paper; the two colors chosen and the play of transparencies, are a reference to the original specimen; each copy was signed and numbered and constitutes a unique piece.
 
The 25 x 35 cm transfer sheets, on the other hand, will take you by the hand to the hectic 1970s: their acetate scent is the scent of progress, the democratization of printing, advertising and the explosion of consumption.
 
Finally, the digital Metropol is our present, the landing and take-off runway for the future of this iconic font, conceived over 55 years ago and still a highly topical Italian typographic masterpiece.
